Meet

Krista

M.A, LPCC

She has a passion for global travel and humanitarian work. Krista’s husband is a Korean adoptee and was found on the streets at six years old. His past has propelled their marriage to take on a mission of serving and loving children worldwide. In addition to traveling, Krista’s hobbies are mountain biking, dancing, trying new foods, and spending time with friends.

Krista has spent over a decade working with adolescents, young women, and families. She is the founder of Set Your Mind, and Girl Above (a local non-profit striving to improve the mental health of teen girls and their parents). Krista is a certified life coach and Licensed Professional Counselor Candidate.

Krista became a therapist after spending time as a high school and middle school teacher and dance coach. She realized the aching need for connection and support among the younger generations and became passionate about helping them create lasting change in their lives. Over the years, she has been fortunate enough to launch a podcast for parents and speak with hundreds of parents across Colorado, helping them navigate the most pressing issues facing today’s teens. Krista also facilitates groups for adolescent girls and adult women to improve their confidence and learn to become advocates for themselves.

Krista is a Colorado native and currently lives in Lakewood with her husband, their son, and their Goldendoodle, Ollie.

My Approach to Therapy

My therapeutic approach is a mix of several therapeutic practices. I use Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational interviewing, and parts work based on Internal Family Systems. I am also trained in Polyvagal Theory.

By combining these approaches, I can tailor my interventions to each client’s specific needs. For example, CBT may be useful for addressing specific behavioral changes and thought patterns, while IFS can help individuals explore deeper emotional issues and conflicts within themselves. Meanwhile, Motivational Interviewing can be applied to enhance the client’s readiness for change and commitment to the therapeutic process.

Therapy is a personalized process, and combining these approaches would depend on the individual’s unique situation, goals, and preferences. I will adapt my therapeutic approach based on the client’s needs, ensuring the most effective and beneficial treatment.

CBT

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

CBT

CBT is a popular therapy that targets the link between thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Its aim is to alter negative thought patterns and behaviors causing emotional distress. By changing unhelpful beliefs, individuals can enhance coping and emotional well-being.

Parts Work/Internal Family Systems

PW

Internal Family Systems sees the mind as parts of your personality, each with distinct beliefs and emotions. It guides clients to comprehend and embrace these parts, fostering self-compassion and healing conflicts.

Motivational Interviewing

MI

Motivational Interviewing spurs change motivation through collaborative discussions that uncover intrinsic reasons for healthier behavior. It's effective for clients grappling with change resistance or ambivalence.
